On Top Of The World Looking Down On Creation

On Saturday I was up at the crack of dawn to explore yet more of Oslo's hidden treasures. I decided to take the T-Bane into the hills and forests surrounding the city, with nothing but my iPod, camera and an apple for company. Line 1 of the T-Bane (Holmenkollbane) is worth the journey in itself. Trains on the recently upgraded line make slow but steady progress up the hills toward the Holmenkollen ski jump, offering amazing views of the city beneath.

I travelled to the end of the line – Frognerseteren. What a view! From there I wandered around some of the cross-country ski-trails, which in the absence of the white stuff are fantastic for walking or cycling. My camera isn't the best so my photos don't show the true beauty of it, but here they are anyway:

What makes someone want to hurl themselves off that ski jump is beyond me…

In the evening I made my first visit to the Oslo Sportsbar in Gamlebyen to watch the Heineken Cup final. The place was full of Celtic fans celebrating their Scottish Cup victory. I was the only person interested in the rugby (although Dave did his best to be interested!) but the Aussie manager took pity and made sure one of the screens was showing it. I won't mention the result.
