The Search is on for Oslo’s Best Burger

Illegal Burger, OsloNorwegian newspaper Aftenposten recently declared the burgers served by Illegal Burger on Møllergata as the best in Oslo.

Always up for a food-related challenge, me and fellow Life in Norway blogger Gerry are going to conduct our own totally non-scientific, never-ending taste test, seeking out the tastiest burgers in Oslo.

It's a tough life 😉

As Gerry lives in Trondheim, we'll probably throw in the odd review from there too, such as the Mikrobryggeri and Sesam.

Many food blogs such as the Canadian site Burger Quest follow a scorecard approach but I can't be doing with all that science. Besides, what makes a good burger is more complex than simply adding up a score for the bun, the meat and the service. I can always put up with poor service if the food is worth it! And this is, after all, just a bit of fun.

I sense we probably like different things in burgers. Gerry is after all from Mexico, the land of beef and grease, whereas I am from the land which considers a Sunday morning fry-up a culinary wonder*. Okay, perhaps we're not so different after all… but point being, we are going to write up our own individual thoughts about each place we visit. Two opinions for the price of one!

The Shortlist

Based on word of mouth and a few Google searches, we've come up with the following list. But loyal readers, we need your help to grow this list! Where in Norway serves burgers worthy enough of our attention? Leave your thoughts in the comments and we'll add them to the list…

* I do actually love a fry-up, and miss them incredibly

  1. Grunnerløkka Brygghus on Thorvald Meyers Gate (across from The Nighthawk Diner) has a limited selection but good burgers. For a fairly good burger but amazing view, try Ekeberg Restaurant’s outdoor menu on a fine summer day. Bugge’s Eftf in Grunnerløkka with a limited selection of burgers in Grunnerløkka can also be worth trying, if you don’t mind having casava chips instead of potato chips. Cafe Fiasco and Illegal Burger, of course, lead the pack in variety!
