Today I picked up the keys to my new apartment in the Fredensborg area of Oslo, a stone’s throw from the city centre. The apartment is about 8 minutes walk from Karl Johan, the most well known street in Oslo, and every T-bane and tram line is within a 10 minute walk. I looked at several places of varying size and quality, some of which were little more than shoeboxes. I made the decision to spend a bit more than I’d planned to get somewhere that I will be happy in, rather than sticking to my original budget and having to put up with a hole. I think I’ll be glad of this decision when the cold, dark winter comes around.
I’ll be gradually moving in over the next week or so, so Dave and Wendy haven’t seen the back of me just yet. I’ll be forever indebted to them for the help they’ve given me in my first month here, but the time has come for me to settle into my own life in Oslo, rather than piggy-back off theirs 🙂
All I brought over to Oslo were my clothes, laptop and DVD’s, so the flat will look sparse for a while, but I kinda like that. The apartment is fully furnished and the only major purchase I’ll need to make is a TV. I’m not a massive TV watcher and I have my laptop for DVD’s so I’m in no rush for that anyway.
This weekend I will take some photos of my new neighbourhood, but for now here’s the apartment:
There’s a great balcony too, here’s the view:
As you can probably tell it’s been a glorious day, with the temperature hitting 30C for the first time since I arrived. I have my fingers crossed for a good summer! Beer anyone?
