Hostile Terrotory

23 – 25 January
A new winter metal festival for Stavanger. You can experience bands like Septicflesh, Taake, 1349, Borknagar and Purified in Blood, and the first Scandinavian appearance from Death SS.


31 January – 1 February
The line-up is mostly traditional jazz/New Orleans jazz, but elements of funk, latin, swing and soul are also on offer.

Stavanger Wine Festival

2 – 5 April
The 16th year of Stavanger's showcase of wine sees eleven of the city's restaurants and bars team up, with exhibitors from all around Europe.


6 – 11 May
MaiJazz has been running for more than 20 years. Since the first festival in 1989 MaiJazz has developed to be one of Norway's leading jazz festivals presenting international jazz stars and the best in national and local jazz every year. This year's line-up includes the Pat Metheny Unity Group and E.S.T Symphony.

Tour des Fjords

28 May – 1 June
An international cycling race, this year extended from three days to five.

Norway Chess

2 – 13 June
Norway's chess supertournament, this year featuring the Grand Master tournament.

Viking Festival at Karmøy

5 – 8 June
Western Norway's viking festival provides fun for all the family. Held at Karmøy, north of Stavanger.

Rangle Rock at Bryne

11 – 12 July
This annual rock festival is held in the small town of Bryne, a short train ride south of Stavanger.

Gladmat Food Festival

23 – 26 July
As Scandinavia's biggest food festival, Gladmat attracts over 200,000 visitors to sample the flavours of the Stavanger region every year. The region enjoys a growing culinary reputation thanks to pioneering agriculture and Gladmat helps to showcase that work to a hungry audience.

Blink Summer Ski Festival

31 July – 2 August
Norway's summer ski festival. Contestants from the national elite in cross country skiing and biathlon race through the streets of Sandnes.

International Chamber Music Festival

11 – 17 August
One of the world's finest festivals in chamber music. Renowned musicians perform together with artists ranging from the young and promising to the truly great.

Ålgård Water Festival

15 – 18 August
A family festival in Ålgård with an exciting and varied program, including live music.

NuMusic Festival

3 – 6 September
Stavanger's experimental and electronic music festival enters its 15th year. International artists feature, with the aim to present “the history and future direction of electronic music”.


Starts 5 September
Where the streets come alive! Nuart is an independent international contemporary street and urban art festival. The event aims to stimulate debate by challenging entrenched notions of what art is, and more importantly, can be. Runs for approximately six weeks.

Norwegian Organ Festival

11 – 17 September
The 24th edition will focus on the 200th anniversary of the Norwegian Constitution and the 1000th anniversary of the baptism of St. Olav in Rouen.

17 – 21 September
Stavanger's international festival of literature and freedom of expression offers five days of literature, film and debate.
