My First Steps In Oslo

So here I am in Oslo. Until I find an apartment, I am staying with some friends Wendy and Dave who moved to Oslo over 10 years ago and have never looked back. Who better to introduce me to the delights and quirks of Norwegian life?

Well, Wendy started this process by meeting me at Oslo Sentralstasjon and promptly getting us stuck in the lift. This did give me the opportunity to see Wendy speak in delicious flowing Norwegian on the emergency intercom. So far, I can say thank you, count to ten, order a beer, say Cheers! and wish someone a good morning. I have a long way to go 🙂

The next day Wendy took me around Oslo to do boring things like registering for a personal number (NI number equivalent) and opening a bank account. Thanks to Norwegian bureaucracy we managed neither, but I did manage to spend 75% of the money I have on a new pair of glasses. Needs must!

Contacts seem much better value here so I will think about moving on to them permanently. I look very different and I think better without glasses, I'm just worried about getting used to putting them in. However I have managed it this morning and I am about to get the bus up to my new office for my first day. I'm full of nervous energy, I hope I'm not shit.
