SAS shuttle at Ålesund Airport

This waterside city is at the northern edge of fjord region.

Getting to Ålesund

Both SAS and Norwegian operate several daily flights to/from Oslo. The airport is a 10.5-mile drive from central Ålesund, and for those without their own transport, a bus shuttle operates in conjunction with every flight departure and arrival. The one-way fare for the 25 minute journey is 80kr.

Ålesund is not on the national rail network, although a public bus links the town with Åndalsnes station, 100km (62 miles) to the east. From here you can catch a train through the scenic Romsdal valley to Dombås, from where you can connect onto a train to Oslo or Trondheim. For train timetables, check NSB.

Getting around

The city is pedestrian-friendly although its shape and the waterway cutting the city in two means walking between two points can sometimes take longer than you expect. Local buses are operated by Fram, who can provide information on timetables and current fares.

  1. How do I travel by bus from Alesund to Hellesylt for the ferry to Geiranger. The bus schedule must be TOP SECRET. I find something that should be very user friendly to be impossible to find.
