The big news is that the flagship UEFA tournament, the Champions League, will be decided in Hungary for the first time. Budapest’s Puskas Arena will host the final match in 2026.

But also included in the same announcement was the unexpected news that Oslo’s Ullevaal Stadium will also host a major final. The UEFA Women’s Champions League 2025/26 final will be played in Norway’s capital city.

Women’s Champions League

Women’s football in Norway has been growing in popularity, as it has all across Europe. By the time the Champions League final comes around in 2026, chances are it will be bigger still.

As with the men's game, the UEFA Women's Champions League is the premier tournament for club sides in Europe.

This year's final takes place tomorrow at the San Mamés in Bilbao, where Barcelona take on Lyon. Since 2016, every edition of the Women's Champions League has been won by one of these two sides.

The two sides are considered the two leading sides in women's club football, so it should make for a fitting final.

Interestingly, both sides have a major Norwegian name in their sides. Caroline Graham Hansen plays for Barcelona, while women's Ballon d'Or winner Ada Hegerberg plays for Lyon.

Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo

It will be the most prestigious European game ever to take place at Norway’s national stadium. With an all-seated capacity of just under 28,000, Ullevaal is the largest football stadium in Norway.

Ullevaal has previously served as the home ground for Oslo teams Vålerenga and Lyn. Today, the stadium hosts men’s and women’s national team games and the domestic Norwegian Cup final for men and women.

Following this year's final in Bilbao, the 2024/25 final will be played at the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon.
